National and state programs to build beef demand

Kids in the Kitchen
The Sweet Hawaiian Mini Burger was a hit at Wharton County's week long Kids in the Kitchen cooking camp. Over 70 children enjoyed learning about beef nutrition, food safety, grilling techniques and cooking methods. The hands-on workshop allowed the children to prepare their own burgers while encouraging them to learn more about beef's nutritional attributes.

Fueled by Beef
The Danskin Triathlon series is the largest and longest running women's triathlon series in the world and the Texas Beef Council's (TBC) Ultimate Grilling Trailer was on-hand at this year's event recently held in Austin. TBC staff distributed beef recipes, nutrition information and grilling tips at both the race and race expo. Over 1,100 lean beef brisket tacos served on whole wheat Mission brand tortillas were distributed to participants and spectators. The Texas beef checkoff made over 12,400 impressions throughout the race event.

Social Networking
Twitter is a social media outlet that provides the opportunity for the Texas Beef Council (TBC) to share beef recipes, preparations tips, nutrition information, positive industry news and much more. Through this networking tool, consumers connect with each other, follow news and learn about products. The TBC Twitter page is a comprehensive online resource for smart advice on purchasing, preparing and enjoying beef. Continually growing, over 900 followers including general consumers, food journalists, health professionals, media outlets, bloggers and many more are currently engaged in the TBC Twitter page. Follow TBC on Twitter at http://twitter.com/TxBeef!

Live Well Event
The Live Well 2010: A Return to Real Food and Simple Pleasures event, funded by the beef checkoff, was designed to engage and mobilize top-tier health professionals and credentialed members of the nutrition media, providing them with new research and tools to incorporate beef nutrition information into their education efforts. Held at the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) at Greystone in Napa Valley, the event brought together scientific, culinary, beef industry and consumer experts who provided a closer look at the latest beef nutrition scientific research, and discussed aspects of food production from the pasture to the plate. Participants included 29 credentialed food and nutrition media who collectively reach millions of beef consumers, ranging from authors to food bloggers to a Food Network host; former American Dietetic Association (ADA) national spokespeople; and high-profile health professionals from across the country.
